NUCAPS Vertical Profiles on CIMSS Satellite Blog: NOAA-Unique Combined Atmospheric Processing System (NUCAPS) profiles of moisture and temperature, created from Suomi-NPP and NOAA-20, have been absent from the National Weather Service Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) display since late March with the Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) on Suomi-NPP suffered an anomaly. NUCAPS profiles created from NOAA-20 this week started flowing to AWIPS, again providing an important measure (independent of models) of atmospheric thermodynamics midway between regular radiosonde observations. A CIMSS Satellite Blog post documented this event (http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/blog/archives/33653). (S. Lindstrom, CIMSS, 808 263 4425)

CIMSS Satellite Blog Updates: The Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) Satellite Blog (http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/blog/) was updated with the posts "Fire at a Jim Beam bourbon warehouse in Kentucky" (July 3, 2019), "Solar eclipse in the Southern Hemisphere" (July 2), "Hurricane Barbara in the East Pacific" (July 2) and "NUCAPS Profiles are back in AWIPS" (July 2, 2019).
