ASPB AND CIMSS WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE WEEK ENDING AUGUST 16, 2019

IN THE PRESS:

SSEC and CIMSS Scientists in the News: Scientists at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW) Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) and the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) provide expert commentary, interviews, and imagery to news media and participate in events to promote science. In the news this week: 1) The Summer/Fall 2019 issue of Through the Atmosphere showcases research -- and student involvement in research -- at SSEC and CIMSS, from new precipitation studies to artificial intelligence applied to hurricane analysis and more. The magazine is posted online: https://www.ssec.wisc.edu/through-the-atmos/. 2) CIMSS Satellite Blog contributors Scott Lindstrom, Tim Schmit, and Scott Bachmeier published posts on "NUCAPS Soundings surrounding an isolated Thundershower" (Aug. 15), "GOES-16 ABI derived products such as cloud-top phase in AWIPS" (Aug 14), "Largest hailstone on record for the state of Colorado" (Aug. 13), and "Thunderstorm over the Arctic Ocean" (Aug. 11).
