UNDOS Action Plan for the Arctic Ocean Kickoff Meetings: The first meeting of the group that will develop an Action Plan for the Arctic Ocean as part of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (UNDOS) was held on October 22, 2020. A series of virtual workshops will take place throughout Fall 2020 to draft the key content plan. The first of these workshops was held October 23. The working groups are 1) A clean ocean where sources of pollution are identified, reduced or removed; 2) A healthy and resilient ocean where marine ecosystems are understood and managed; 3) A productive ocean supporting sustainable food supply and a sustainable ocean economy; 4) A predicted ocean where society understands and can respond to changing ocean conditions; 5) A safe ocean where life and livelihoods are protected from ocean-related hazards; 6) An accessible ocean with open and equitable access to data, information and technology and innovation; 7) An inspiring and engaging ocean where society understands and values the ocean in relation to human wellbeing and sustainable development. NEDSIS has representatives on all working groups (S. Helfrich, P. DiGiacomo, E. Bayler, L. Connor, J. Key, and E. Smail). (J. Key, E/RA2, 608-263-2605, jeff.key@noaa.gov)

CIMSS Flash Talk Social: NOAA's Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) held an informal "flash-talk" science colloquium on Wednesday October 21st featuring four virtual presentations by colleagues sharing details on projects they’re pursuing while working remotely. The event doubles as a social gathering to offset workplace isolation imposed by COVID-19. The October gathering had a Pacific Region theme. A running archive of these events can be found on-line at https://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/education/flashtalks/. (M. Mooney, CIMSS, margaret.mooney@ssec.wisc.edu, S.Lindstrom, CIMSS)
