WORKSHOPS, CONFERENCES, AND MEETINGS:

Dan Lindsey, Andrew Heidinger, and Steve Goodman Visits CIMSS: Dr. Dan Lindsey, the GOES-R Program Senior Scientist (NESDIS/STAR), Dr. Andrew Heidinger, the new Senior Scientist for Geostationary Earth Observations (GEO) at NOAA/NESDIS, and Dr. Steve Goodman visited the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) virtually the afternoon of 26 October 2020. They interacted with many CIMSS and Advanced Satellite Products Branch (ASPB) scientists to discuss progress on GOES-R/GEO-XO projects as well as a variety of topics including, but not limited to, GOES-R Risk Reduction, GEO-XO planned activities, National Weather Service (NWS) high priority research, GOES-R Proving Ground, GOES-17 mitigation strategies, GOES-R Algorithm Working Group (AWG), high impact weather, training and outreach, and calibration/validation. TRAINING AND EDUCATION:

VISIT Training on Fog/Low Stratus IFR Probability Products: Scott Lindstrom from the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) gave a Virtual Institute for Satellite Integration Training (VISIT) presentation to one forecaster and to the Science and Operations Officer (SOO) from the Sterling Virginia (WFO LWX) forecast office. GOES-16 versions of these fields have recently begun flowing into National Weather Service Forecast Offices over the Satellite Broadcast Network (SBN). (Scott Lindstrom, CIMSS, 608 263 4425)

MEDIA AND OUTREACH:

SSEC and CIMSS Scientists in the News: Scientists at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW) Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) and the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) provide expert interviews, imagery and case studies to promote science. 1) UW News published the SSEC story about NOAA NCEI scientist Jim Kossin's research on trends in hurricane behavior.
