CIMSS AND ASPB WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE WEEK ENDING DECEMBER 26, 2020

PUBLICATIONS:

Paper published on Impacts of COVID-19 Using Earth Observation Data: A paper titled "Examining the Economic and Environmental Impacts of COVID-19 Using Earth Observation Data" was published in the Remote Sensing Special Issue "Remote Sensing of Night-Time Light" (https://www.mdpi.com/2072-4292/13/1/5). This was a combination of research between NOAA/NESDIS, CIMSS, CIRA, Oak Ridge National Lab and Blue Dot, Inc., looking at the impact of the lockdowns associated with CoVID-19 in the United States had on mobility, economic activity, and air quality. This research was discussed at the recent American Geophysical Union meeting and will also be presented at the American Meteorological Society annual meeting. This paper is meant to give a first look, with ongoing further studies (currently funded by NOAA) to provide more in-depth analysis on other economic indicators. (W. Straka III, CIMSS; S.
