Presentation at Australian Bureau of Meteorology monthly VLab: Scott Lindstrom from the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) gave a short discussion on efficient ways to view JASON wave heights during the monthly Australian Bureau of Meteorology Centre of Excellence Focus Group Meeting, lead by Bodo Zeschke, on 18 August 2022. This month's topic was the extraordinary wave event that affected American Samoa and Hawaii in mid-July 2022. Lindstrom's talk complemented Zeschke's presentation and showed how to create week-long animations of JASON wave observations over large domains. (S. Lindstrom, CIMSS, 608 263 4425)

SSEC and CIMSS Scientists in the News: Scientists at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW) Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) and the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) provide expert interviews, imagery and case studies to promote science. This week: 1) Congressional aides visited SSEC and CIMSS on Aug. 19 to learn about research that benefits Wisconsinites. Their visit was part of a larger campus-wide research tour coordinated by the UW-Madison Office of Federal Relations. Briefings this year included an overview of SSEC, CIMSS and partners (R. Pierce, SSEC), climate change and flood risk in Wisconsin (S. Hubbard, CIMSS), public safety and better lead times for severe storms (J. Cintineo, CIMSS), and relationships between agriculture, forestry and Wisconsin's climate (A. Desai, AOS). The tour concluded with an overview of SSEC's Data Center and a stop on our rooftop for an expansive view of Madison and the surrounding area. 2) CIMSS Satellite Blog contributors Scott Lindstrom and Scott Bachmeier published these case studies: "Welcome back Suomi NPP!" (Aug. 19), "Blowing dust and wildfire smoke in northern Argentina" (Aug. 15), "Sea ice in the Bering Sea" (Aug. 14).
