ECCC 'Stay Connected' Webinar: Scott Lindstrom from the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) gave a talk for Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC)'s Training and Career Development Division's Stay Connected Webinar series. The title was "What the Satellite Saw! Selected Weather Events in 2023 From the Satellite's Point of View" The talk summarized, with imagery, a variety of 2023 Canadian weather events from flooding to smoke to hail with a focus on how Satellite Imagery is vital to helping anticipate and describe the events. SSEC and CIMSS Scientists in the news: Scientists at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW) Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) and the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) provide expert interviews, imagery and case studies to promote science. This week: 1) CIMSS Satellite Blog contributor Scott Bachmeier and Scott Lindstrom published the following case studies: "Volcanic Eruption on the Reykjanes peninsula" (Dec. 19), "Comparing Day Cloud Phase Distinction, Cloud Phase, and Snow observations" (Dec. 18), "Pyrocumulonimbus cloud in Australia" (Dec. 18), "1-minute GOES-18 imagery to monitor ongoing heavy rainfall in American Samoa" (Dec. 16), "More rain over the Samoan Islands" (Dec. 15), "Observations of strong winds in the Gulf of Tehuantepec" (Dec. 14).
