DATA, INFORMATION, AND USE-INSPIRED SCIENCE:

Operational VIIRS Polar Winds Generated in the Cloud: The NESDIS Office of Satellite and Product Operations (OSPO) has implemented the SNPP, NOAA-20, and NOAA-21 VIIRS Polar Winds (VPW) Products in the NESDIS Common Cloud Framework (NCCF) User Acceptance Testing (UAT) environment. The products are now available via the Product Distribution and Access (PDA) system. The VPW products will transition to the NCCF Production (PROD) environment by March 6, 2024. (J. SSEC and CIMSS Scientists in the news: Scientists at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW) Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) and the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) provide expert interviews, imagery and case studies to promote science and satellite imagery. This week: 1) CIMSS Satellite Blog contributors Scott Bachmeier, Scott Lindstrom, and Alexa Ross published the following case studies: "Large waves approaching Hawai’i" (February 14); "Winter storm produces heavy snowfall (with some lightning) across parts of the Northeast US" (February 13); "VIIRS imagery of a low pressure system near the North Pole" (February 13); "MIRS Rain Rate from Direct Broadcast" (February 13); "Wind, Storms, and Gales in Alaska" (February 12); "Satellite signatures of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launch from California" (Februrary 09); "Turbulence near the axis of a strong subtropical jet stream" (February 09); "NUCAPS profiles are back in AWIPS" (February 09); "Assessing the likelihood of rain during a drought" (February 04); "Wildfires in Chile" (February 09).
