Workshop Logistics
Accomodations
A block of rooms has been reserved at the Howard Johnson hotel ("HoJo")
in
Madison,
which is about 8 blocks from our building along West Dayton Street.
Mention code: SDAI Conference. The government rate is $62 single
($82 double). The hotel phone number is 608-251-5511; their
e-mail address is: reservations@hjplazamadison.com.
(A room can only be reserved at the government rate by phone; that
option is not possible on-line). The block covers 19-22 Aug 2003,
but the rate does not apply for Friday night (22 Aug). The
cut-off deadline for the block is 1 Aug. The HoJo website is http://www.hjplazamadison.com/.
Transportation and Parking
Rental cars are available at the airport. However, unless you
plan to travel outside of the university and downtown area, you
probably won't need a car. SSEC is 8 blocks from the Howard
Johnson hotel, and there are a multitude of restaurants within a mile
of the hotel. The hotel offers a free shuttle from the airport
until about 10 pm. Call from the couresy phone while you're
waiting for your luggage; it may take 15-20 minutes for the van to get
there. If you can't get the hotel shuttle, you can take a
taxi. If there are no taxis (not
usually the case), you can call Badger Cabs at 256-5566. They'll
send one over generally within 10 minutes. The hotel also has a
shuttle to various points on
campus (unless they're busy shuttling people to/from the airport), but
you'll need to walk back from SSEC to the
hotel.
Parking at the Howard Johnson is free; free parking around SSEC is
scarce. The nearest university parking is 4 blocks from SSEC (lot
17, a parking structure), and costs $7/day. See the map
below or use the interactive maps at http://uwbadgers.com/maps.

Meeting facilities
Room 351 in the Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Space Sciences Building on
the UW-Madison campus (at 1225 West Dayton Street) is equipped with a
ceiling-mounted color projector
(InFocus, with a maximum resolution of 1024x768) which is connected to
a PC (Dell Precision 340) running MS Windows 2000. Netscape 7.0
and Microsoft Office are available on the PC. Laptop computers can be
attached for input to the
projector.
Thus, the display is readily available for PowerPoint presentations or
access
to the web. If you are giving an electronic presentation and wish
to use our PC, the file(s) can be transferred over the Internet (FTP or
SCP), via CDROM, or USB memory devices.
Traditional overhead projectors are also available for transparencies.
