GROUND TRANSPORTATION TO THE NOAA FACILITY

Metrorail to NOAA facility

The NOAA facilities in Silver Spring can be reached by Metrorail on the RED
line.

If coming from Washington, D.C., take the Metrorail heading in the
Wheaton/Silver Spring direction.  It is best to get on the last car of the
train.  As you enter Silver Spring, the NOAA facilities will be the four
multi-storied buildings on the left side of the train.  When you get off
the train, take the escalator down to the street level.  Exit the station.
Turn left towards the street (Colesville Road). Make a 90 degree turn to
the left and walk under the Metrorail bridge. A Penguin wall mural will be

on your left, the road on your right. On the other side of the bridge, you
will be at the edge of the NOAA campus.

Transit time from Metrorail station to Conference centre:
Approximately 7 to 10 minutes.

Transit time on Metrorail from various points within the
Metrorail-Washington D.C. area to Silver Spring station: 15 to 65 minutes.

By car from the Beltway:

Exit at the Colesville Road South ramp.  Head south for approximately two
miles on Colesville Road.  Once you see the Metrorail bridge ahead of you,
get into the left lane.  Drive under the bridge.  At the corner of
Colesville Road and East-West Highway, turn left.  The entrance to the
parking garage will be on your left.

By car from Washington D.C. via 16th Street:

Drive north on 16th Street.  Turn right onto Colesville Road.  Drive
approximately 1/4 mile to the intersection of East-West Highway and
Colesville Road.  At the traffic light, turn right onto East-West Highway.
Entrances to the parking garage will be on your left.

By car from Georgia Avenue:

Drive north on Georgia Avenue until you get to East-West Highway.  Turn
left at the traffic light.  After the second set of traffic lights, you
will see four high rise buildings on the right.  The entrance to the garage
will be on your right.

Parking in the NOAA garage

Please note the number of the stall in which your car is parked.  You will
need to enter that number into the parking meters.  Meters are located at
convenient locations throughout the garage. You should budget approximately
$4 for all day parking in the long-term parking stalls.

NOTE:  Metered parking is available for 50 cents per hour. The meters will
only accept $1 dollar bills and 25 cent coins.  It may be difficult to find
available spaces in the parking garage if other meetings or conferences are
in progress.  We advise walking or using the Metrorail system to the
maximum extent possible.

We advise that you do not park in the 1 or 3 hour parking stalls; these are
more expensive and will only accept payment for the first 3 hours of
parking.  There are longer term (and cheaper) parking stalls which will
allow you to pay for all-day parking in the morning.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Please pay your parking; non-payment will result in a $30 parking fine.
Please do not park in non-numbered stalls; your car may be towed.

Alternate Parking in the immediate vicinity

If the parking garage is full, paid parking is available at two locations
which are approximately 10 minutes walking distance from the NOAA facility.

There is a 3 story brown and tan building on East West Highway where the
Caldor Department store used to be located.  The first parking lot is
behind the building.  The second lot is located on East West Highway
opposite the building.
