GOES Clear Sky Brightness Temperature Processing
Now in Linux Format: The Geostationary Operational Environmental
Satellite (GOES) Clear Sky Brightness Temperature (CSBT) processing
system is now incorporated into the Concurrent Versions System (CVS)
repository at the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite
Studies (CIMSS). In addition, the GOES CSBT processing system has been
transported to a Linux computing platform and is consistent with a
International Business Machine (IBM) Advanced Interactive eXecutive
(AIX) Unix computer. This software work is in preparation for the
transfer of the GOES CSBT processing system to the Office of Satellite
Data Production and Distribution (OSDPD) of the National Environmental
Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS). (T. Schreiner,

Antarctic Research on Local NBC News: A
short, two-segment report on weather research in Antarctica appeared on
the nightly news of Madison's local NBC station (channel 15). The
report by NBC15's Amy Carlson highlighted the automatic weather
stations and described Matthew Lazzara's (Space Science and Engineering
Center) recent trip to McMurdo and South Pole Station. Pictures
taken by J. Key were used to tell the story. (Unfortunately,
neither Key nor NOAA were mentioned.) The pictures are available
at http://stratus.ssec.wisc.edu/scenes/mcmurdo04/.
