World Climate Research Programme's Climate and Cryosphere (CliC)
project Science Steering Group met in Tromso, Norway this week. J. Key
gave presentations via phone on the new Global Cryosphere Watch initiative,
the Arctic Council's Snow, Water, Ice, and Permafrost in the Arctic
(SWIPA) assessment, the WCRP Observation and Assimilation Panel, and the
Canadian Polar Communication and Weather (PCW) satellite mission. (J.

ARCPAC Aerosol Manuscript Published: A
manuscript entitled “Characteristics, sources, and transport of aerosols
measured in spring 2008 during the aerosol, radiation, and cloud
processes affecting Arctic Climate (ARCPAC)” by C. A. Brock et al. was
published in Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics (Atmos. Chem. Phys., 11,
2423-2453, doi:10.5194/acp-11-2423-2011, 2011). The manuscript presents
an overview of the background, scientific goals, and execution of the
NOAA Aerosol, Radiation, and Cloud Processes affecting Arctic Climate
(ARCPAC) mission of April 2008 which part of NOAA's contribution to the
International Polar Year (IPY). Online supplemental material for the
manuscript includes movies of large scale aerosol transport over the
Pacific from the Real-time Air Quality Modeling System (RAQMS) aerosol
analyses. Movies are available online at
