First Annual AOSS Community Poster Session:
The first Atmospheric, Oceanic and Space Sciences (AOSS) Community
Poster session was held on 26 April 2011 in the University of
Wisconsin’s new Union South. The event showcased “the innovative
science, engineering, educational outreach, and other projects going on
in the Atmospheric, Oceanic and Space Sciences Building”. Participating
organizations included the Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (AOS)
department, the Center for Climatic Research (CCR), the Space Science
and Engineering Center (SSEC), Cooperative Institute for Meteorological
Satellite Studies (CIMSS), and the NOAA Advanced Satellite Products
Branch (ASPB). This building-wide poster session, with more than 90
posters and 200 participants, was sponsored by the SSEC Equity and

JPSS ADP Meeting: Jeff Key and Andrew Heidinger attended a meeting of the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) Algorithm and Data Products (ADP) group held in College Park, Maryland. The meeting consisted of the STAR JPSS Application Team Leads and the STAR JPSS managers. The focus of the meeting was the ongoing process of defining STAR's role within JPSS and planned activities over the next three months. ITEMS FOR THE DIVISION CHIEF, CoRP:
Keynote Address at NOAA-CREST Symposium: Brad Pierce gave the Keynote address entitled "Chemical and Aerosol Data Assimilation Studies during CalNex" at the 7th Annual NOAA-CREST Symposium which was held on April 27-28 at Hampton University in Hampton VA. He also chaired the "Climate Studies" Technical Session. (R.B. Pierce, E/RA2, 608-890-1892, brad.pierce@noaa.gov)CREST Advisory Board: Steve Ackerman participated in the CREST annual advisory board meeting in Hampton University. MODIS images showing tornado damage paths: Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) visible and true color images were posted on the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) Satellite Blog (http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/blog/archives/7910) which showed several tornado damage paths across northern Alabama that were a result of the historic tornado outbreak across the southeastern United States on April 27, 2011.
