Conferences: Tri-Agency Climate Change and AGU Science Policy: NOAA,
NASA and NSF co-convened a conference for Climate Change Education
(CCE) April 17-20, 2012 in Arlington Virginia to foster synergy between
nearly 200 individuals representing projects funded by NSF Climate
Change Education Partnership programs, NASA Global Climate Change
Education programs, and several NOAA Environmental Literacy initiatives
including Science on a Sphere (SOS) (https://nice.larc.nasa.gov/tri_pi/?page_id=352).
The Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS)
had a strong showing at this gathering. Two weeks later on April 30,
the American Geophysical Union (AGU) held its inaugural Science Policy
meeting in Washington DC, a smaller meeting with one poster presentation
from CIMSS. Along with the similar location and solid Wisconsin
participation, Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) visualization
tools provided another common thread at these events with McIDAS-V
playing a prominent role at breakout sessions during the tri-agency
meeting and Vis5D animations exemplifying ways that science can inform
policy at the AGU meeting. (M. Mooney, CIMSS/SSEC, 608-265-2123, S.
Ackerman, CIMSS, 608-263-3647)
