CEOS Training Given for MODIS Applications: A.
Heidinger gave a second week of lectures and laboratory sessions to a
CEOS (Committee for Earth Observation Satellites) Remote Sensing Course
open only to African earth-science educators and professionals. Over 30
students participated. This topic of this week's activity was the NASA
MODIS (MODerate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) sensor. The
lectures and laboratory sessions covered ways to access MODIS data and
gave an overview of popular MODIS tools. (A. Heidinger, E/RA2,

JPSS Risk Reduction Cryosphere CDR: The Cryosphere Team of the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) Risk Reduction project "Uniform Multi-Sensor Algorithms for Consistent Products" held a critical design review (CDR) 18-19 April 2013. Snow cover, ice concentration and cover, ice surface temperature, and ice thickness/age products were presented. CDRs for other project teams will take place in the coming weeks. (J. NCAR Visit and Presentation: Anne Sophie Daloz, a postdoctoral fellow working with Jim Kossin (National Climatic Data Center/Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies) and Dan Vimont (University of Wisconsin/Atmospheric and Oceanic Science) visited the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR, Boulder, CO) and presented results on modeling tropical cyclone tracks under climate change projection scenarios. Visitors from Korea Meteorological Administration: On 18-19 April, 2013 Mr. Sung-Rae Chung, Senior Researcher, Satellite Planning Division and Dr. Eun-Jeong Cha, Senior Researcher, Satellite Analysis Division of the National Meteorological Satellite Center (NMSC), Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) visited the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS). NMSC scientists presented KMA’s geostationary satellite program, their plans for the new polar-orbiting project, and various operations in the broad and comprehensive use of satellite imagery and products to support weather forecasters.
