GOES-R at Grandparents University: University of Wisconsin-Madison alums and their grandchildren spent two days at the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) learning about satellite meteorology this week. (http://go.wisc.edu/04bim5) One of the highlights was an introduction to Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites (GOES-R) by NOAA's Tim Schmit where he shared the excitement and promise of the GOES-R satellite series and wowed the group with recent examples of rapid scan imagery. New CoRP Director and STAR Acting Director Visit CIMSS: Satya Kalluri, the new Chief of the STAR Cooperative Research Program Division, and Mike Kalb, Acting Director of STAR, visited the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS)/Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) and the NOAA Advanced Satellite Products Branch (ASPB) on July 21, 2015. Steve Ackerman, CIMSS Director, gave a presentation on CIMSS history, organization, and research. Wayne Feltz, one of SSEC's Executive Directors, provided additional information and discussion on interactions between CIMSS/SSEC and NOAA. (J. Key, E/RA2, 608-263-2605, jkey@ssec.wisc.edu)
