Teacher Workshop at the GOES-U Launch: The GOES-R Program supported a Teacher Workshop at Kennedy Space Center prior to the GOES-U satellite launch which was conducted by NOAA's Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS). There were 44 teachers registered for the original April 29th launch date then 29 for June with 22 actually attending. Energy was high and the questions and discussions were thoughtful and engaging. SSEC and CIMSS Scientists in the News: Scientists at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) and the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) provide expert interviews, imagery and case studies to promote science and satellite imagery. This week: CIMSS Satellite Blog contributors Scott Bachmeier, Scott Lindstrom, and Tim Schmit published the following case studies: "Severe thunderstorm north of the Arctic Circle in Alaska" (June 27); "Sun glint and light winds to the west of Invest 95L in the tropical Atlantic" (June 28); "Hurricane Beryl moves through the Windward Islands" (July 1); "Hurricane Beryl in the central Caribbean as a Category 5 storm" (July 2); 'Most Subtle Rocket Booster Re-Entry Signal Ever?"
