SSEC and CIMSS Scientists in the News: Scientists at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) and the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) provide expert interviews, imagery and case studies to promote science and satellite imagery. This week: 1) Antarctic Meteorological Researcher and Data Center researcher David Mikolajczyk spoke with the Washington Post about unusually high temperatures recorded in Antarctica. 2) NOAA scientist Mike Pavolonis spoke with the Denver Post about the Next Generation Fire System, an AI system built by SSEC, CIMSS and NOAA scientists that supports wildfire emergency planners by allowing them to detect new wildfires and monitor developing fires using GOES satellite data. 3) CIMSS Satellite Blog contributor Scott Lindstrom and NOAA Scientist Tim Schmit published the following case studies: "Day Night Band imagery of the Park Fire in California" (July 28), "Clear skies over the Great Lakes" (July 26).
