CIMSS-NOAA WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE WEEK ENDING OCTOBER 11, 2024
DATA, INFORMATION, AND USE-INSPIRED SCIENCE:
CIMSS Satellite Product Support and Media Coverage for Hurricane Milton: The University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) supported NOAA/NWS coverage of Hurricane Milton with real-time demonstrational satellite-derived products as part of NESDIS Hurricane Testbed and Proving Ground activities. Various products were cited by the National Hurricane Center during the lead-up to landfall. In addition, multiple on-line and live media interviews were given to local (Wisconsin), national (e.g., Reuters) and international (e.g., Canadian Broadcast Company) during and after the landfall of Hurricane Milton along the Florida coast. SSEC and CIMSS Scientists in the News: Scientists at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) and the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) provide expert interviews to news agencies around the world: This week: 1) CIMSS Scientist Sarah Griffin spoke with several news outlets including CBC, WMTV, News Channel 3, WTMJ, and others about the formation and evolution of Hurricane Milton which impacted Florida. CBC, News Channel 3, WMTV, and WTMJ. 2) SSEC, CIMSS and STAR NESDIS were mentioned in an article about essential storm tracking apps. (E. Verbeten, SSEC, 608-263-4206, S.
