VISIT Teletraining for Charleston WV Forecast Office: Scott Lindstrom from the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) gave a Virtual Institute for Satellite Integration Training (VISIT) presentation to a forecaster from the Charleston WV Forecast Office (WFO RLX) on GOES-R IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) Probability fields that are available in AWIPS. The product can be used to identify regions where low clouds/fog are restricting ceilings and/or visibilities. (S. Lindstrom, CIMSS, 608 263 4425)

WMO Bulletin: The Cryosphere - the Canary in the Coal Mine: The upcoming 2024 World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Bulletin features an article titled, "The Cryosphere – the Canary in the Coal Mine of the Climate System", co-authored by J. Key (Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies, CIMSS). The (non-peer-reviewed) article describes the impacts of a changing cryosphere, the need for better observations and collaboration between research and operational organizations, challenges for enhancing Earth System predictions, and the role that WMO can play in observing and understanding the cryosphere.
