CIMSS in the AMS Annual Meeting VIrtual Poster Slam Session: Scott Lindstrom from the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) was one of four Session Chairs at this year's American Meteorological Society's Annual Meeting Virtual Poster session. He chaired a session with 15 3-minute presentations. The peak attendance for this session was 26 Zoom attendees. (S. Lindstrom, CIMSS, 608 263 4425)

This week on the CIMSS Satellite Blog: The Satellite Blog at the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) includes case studies demonstrating the utility and beauty of satellite imagery and satellite products. This week's entries focused on the fires in southern California - "Palisades Fire in Southern California", "NGFS detections of multiple fires in/near Los Angeles County", "Day Night Band imagery of fires over California", and included other entries as well: "Disturbed weather near the Samoan Islands", "Using Day Cloud Phase Distinction RGB fields to identify precipitating Lake-Effect snow bands", "LightningCast applied to new sensors", "A Record wet day on Guam", "1-minute GOES-18 imagery to monitor Flash Flooding potential across American Samoa", "Tornado in the Sacramento Valley of California", and "Power Plant plumes in North Dakota".
