CIMSS-NOAA WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE WEEK ENDING APRIL 25, 2025

DATA, INFORMATION, AND USE-INSPIRED SCIENCE:

Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) Single Scan Line calibration: On 23 April, CIMSS provided materials and prototype code to demonstrate the application of Single Scan Line (SSL) calibration of NOAA-21 Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) radiance data. This is a key part of the development of a new operational algorithm which is intended to mitigate calibration artifacts which occur when exiting solar eclipse for NOAA-21 CrIS, and is potentially expected also for JPSS-4 and JPSS-3 sensors. The methodology allows for faster time response of the sensor complex responsively and phase while also producing low noise results on an SSL basis. The capability will also be beneficial for Direct Broadcast (DB) applications by providing larger yield at the beginning and end of each DB pass and with low latency. (D.
