AND INFORMATION SERVICE (NESDIS)
EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH AWARD
MAY 2001
PURPOSE:
To recognize one NESDIS employee who has made significant contributions to NESDIS programs, and has demonstrated an exceptional and sustained effort toward the accomplishment of NESDIS' mission within FY 2001.
ELIGIBILITY:
At the time of the nomination for Employee of the Month, the individual must:
b. have received at least "meets expectations" or "eligible" rating for their most recent rating cycle.

Some examples of worthy accomplishments that could lead to a nomination are as follows:
NOMINATION PROCEDURES:
The Employee of the Month shall be chosen from all occupations and grade levels within the organization (except SES employees and Office Directors) for recognition. Any supervisory or non-supervisory employee may nominate an individual. Employees may nominate individuals from any office within the organization. The justification must be in a narrative form, not to exceed one page. It must describe a recent achievement or service, including the impact of the contribution, which would justify the employee for the award. The narrative must include the following information:
Nominations must be submitted via electronic mail by COB April 11. No nominations will be accepted after that date.

SELECTION PROCEDURES:
All nominations must be submitted via e-mail only to Barbara Brooks in the Management and Analysis Office at Barbara.Brooks@noaa.gov by COB April 11. No nominations will be accepted after April 11. An ad hoc committee of the NESDIS Diversity Council consisting of one Union Representative, two At-Large members, one Manager, and one Senior Executive Service will convene to review, confirm, evaluate the nominations, and make a selection. The council selection will be submitted to the NESDIS Assistant Administrator (AA) by April 13. The NESDIS AA will approve the Council selection no later than April 16. The selectee will be notified by April 17. The NESDIS AA will forward via e-mail to (unsec.pco@noaa.gov) a digital photograph of the selectee and a one paragraph description of the employee's accomplishments by April 25, to the Under Secretary for Oceans and Atmosphere.
TYPE OF RECOGNITION:
The recipients will receive a certificate signed by the Acting Under Secretary for Oceans and Atmosphere, as well as publicity in the form of poster displays, a page on the NOAA website, and NOAA Report articles including the names and photographs of those recognized. A presentation will be made by the Acting Under Secretary for Oceans and Atmosphere.
RECORD KEEPING:
Award recipients will receive a copy of the justification at the time of presentation. The ad hoc committee will ensure that a copy of the justification is placed in the award recipient's personnel folder.
