CIMSS Hosts High School Students for Summer Workshop: The Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies Student Workshop on Atmospheric, Satellite, and Earth Sciences was held from June 23 to 26. This in-person camp featured an exciting five-day agenda covering meteorology, astronomy, remote sensing, and geology. Participating students stayed on campus in lakeside dorms and engaged in hands-on activities that highlighted science education, research, and technology. They worked directly with scientists, graduate students, and professors. Students attended talks presented by CIMSS scientists on NOAA satellites, McIDAS, severe storms, and the latest advancements in the use of AI tools for weather forecasting. CIMSS has hosted this STEM workshop for more than 30 years, impacting the lives of over 500 students, many of whom go on to pursue careers in the Earth sciences. This year’s participants came from thirteen different states, with one student attending from England. Maria Vasys provided logistics and registration support while Derrick Herndon acted as the workshop director with assistance from Aiden Dalby and Rena Slettten. (D. Herndon, CIMSS, 608-262-6741)
