CIMSS Marks 50th Anniversary of GOES: Researchers at the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies marked the 50th anniversary of the launch of GOES-1. Mat Gunshor delivered a seminar to an audience of approximately 75 (50 in-person, 25 online), consisting of students, faculty, and staff at the University of Wisconsin-Madison on October 15th. Then on October 16th, the 50th anniversary of the launch of GOES-1, the CIMSS Satellite Blog featured a story "Fifty Loops for the 50th Anniversary of GOES." This blog post has an interesting case from all 50 states (plus DC, Puerto Rico, and American Samoa) that highlights the use of GOES for different types of events, such as fires, convection, hurricanes, and more. (M. Gunshor, CIMSS, 608-263-1146, S. Bachmeier, CIMSS).
