WWWBoard Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

Here is a brief explanation of some of the questions you may have about WWWBoard.

What's the purpose of this message board?

The purpose of this message board is to get questions answered!  If you have a question about the lecture or lab material that you think others might also have, post it here.  Anybody can answer it, and anybody can view the answers that are posted.  Keep in mind, however, that not everybody will necessarily post the correct answer.  The professor and TF will monitor this board at least every other day in general, and every day in the week preceeding an exam.  It is much more efficient for them to answer the question once here than to answer it many times individually.  Of course, if you have questions of a personal nature, do not post them.

Why didn't my post show up?

Your post most likely did not show up, because your browser did not reload the page, it simply pulled it out of cache. Please reload your browser and it should then appear.

What are the link-related fields?

The "Optional Link URL" field allows you to include a Web address in your message, which will be displayed as the text you enter into the "Link Title" field. These fields allow you to add a clickable link to you message, which appears as a bullet on a separate line. The only other way to add a link is to type in the HTML code. The "Optional Image URL" allows you to add an image to your message, assuming that it has a Web address.

Can I put html tags anywhere in my posts?

No. You can not use HTML tags in any field except body of the message. The maintainer of the script has the option of allowing or disallowing any HTML in the Message part of your posting. If they disallow it, the script will just throw out everything in <>'s. If they allow it, your html markup will appear in the posting. It can't hurt to try.

Why are there colons in the message when I try to post a followup?

Colons appear in the message dialog box when you try to followup up on a message to indicate that those lines are quoting the previous document. The owner of the WWWBoard can decide whether they wish to enable or disable the quoting of previous messages.
