A qualitative comparison was done on infrared winds from two different satellites to find if coincident IR winds from each existed. If so, the vectors from the satellites were input to the matlab script, IRcomp.m, where each IR wind from the first satallite was compared with the IR winds from the second satellite.

IR winds from Sat 2 were found for each IR wind from Sat 1 within time, distance, and height [pressure] specified thresholds. RMS differences and normalized RMS differences in wind speed were computed for coincident winds that fell within these three thresholds. The mean distance, pressure, speed, direction, and time were also computed using this dataset of points within the thresholds.

Histograms are plotted of the wind speed differences with the frequency the value occurred and scatter plots are plotted of speed differences versus distance and pressure thresholds and direction differences. Distances, pressures and speeds are computed by subtracting Sat 2 winds from Sat 1 winds.


NOTE: Data is taken with a time threshold of 1 hr, distance threshold of 50 km and pressure threshold of 25 mb unless otherwise specified.
