The first IGOS Cryosphere Theme
workshop will be held at the Delta
Lodge at Kananaskis. The hotel
is located in the heart of the Kananaskis Valley at an elevation of
5000 ft. It is approximately 100 km
from the International Airport at Calgary, Alberta, about a 1 hour and
15 minute drive.
Room rates are $118 CAD each plus applicable taxes for a Delta Room
(single and double occupancy). A block of 30 rooms is being held
under "IGOS" (group code GG006) and reservations can be made by calling
toll-free 1-866-432-4322 or by email at kan.reservations@deltahotels.com.
These room rates will only be available by booking before Friday
February 11, 2005.
There are extensive cross-country ski and snowshoe trails in the
Kananaskis area, and skis and snowshoes can be rented in the Village -
unfortunately there are no lit trails, though a headlamp may be all you
need for a short snowshoe trip. There is also a fire pit and lit
toboggan hill near the hotel, and a lit hockey rink.
Stargazing and a moonlight snowshoe can be arranged through the
Back Of Beyond Adventure Company (www.backofbeyond.ca). Downhill
skiing can be had at the nearby Nakiska snow resort, and sleigh rides
can be arranged through the Boundary Ranch.
