Overview

This page provides plots of near real-time surface, cloud, and radiative properties over the Arctic and Antarctic as derived from NOAA-16 AVHRR GAC data, subsampled to 25 km. Retrievals are done once daily with satellite data acquired near 12Z (GMT). Composite images are made from all orbits acquired within four hours of the target time. Processing is done with the Cloud and Surface Parameter Retrieval (CASPR) system which includes FluxNet.

Due to data availability and compositing constraints, "current" results will be for yesterday. The date is given in each plot.

How to use this page: Two plots can be displayed on the page. Select the day, hemisphere (Arctic or Antarctic), and desired parameters from the pull-down menus. Use the top set of pull-down menus for the top plot frame and the bottom pull-down menus for the bottom frame. Subsequent changes to either the day or the hemisphere will automatically display the appropriate images. If you resize your browser window you'll probably have to reload the page and display the plots again.
